What are Synergist Muscles?

Synergist muscles are muscles that help other muscles perform a particular function effectively. The work they perform can be that of stabilization and/or making sure that the force generated moves the weight in the desired direction.

When muscles work together, that is a synergistic relationship and reduces the amount of work that needs to be done. As individual muscles work together to produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of their separate efforts.
